More fuel for thought

A fortnight ago, I highlighted an ingenious idea aimed at driving down the sky-high cost of petrol. The topic must have hit a raw nerve because the response was overwhelming with most readers seriously unhappy at what it costs to fill up. So I have dutifully scoured the web on your behalf and found another site that could help cut pounds off your fuel bill

It is called petrolprices.com and it simply lists the pump prices at almost every filling station in the UK, meaning you can choose the cheapest place to fill up.

You simply type in a postcode and the website lists the cheapest stations within a 2, 5, 10, 15 or 25-mile radius. When I put in my home postcode the website said there were 281 petrol stations within a ten-mile radius with unleaded prices varying from 83.9p to 98.9p – a whopping 15p a litre difference.

The website says it list prices for 10,018 petrol stations (96 per cent of those in the UK) and receives, on average, 8,000 daily price updates from fuel card carriers.

The service cost nothing– the only snag is that you have to register to be able to use it and you only get to 20 searches a week (I can’t imagine who might need more).

Although the owners of the website, Fubra Ltd, promise never to pass on your details, the privacy policy allows them to e-mail you about their products and services as well as information they “believe” will be of interest to you. The company owns a series of similar sites - including ourproperty.co.uk that lists house prices.

I registered a couple of weeks ago, and as of yet, I haven’t received anything other than a welcome e-mail – unless the other messages have been eaten by my spam filter – so it seems like a could be a useful site.

I have registered on this website and I think it is amazing.
