Shoppers at Asda who find that they are refused the supermarket's credit card will be able to obtain a free copy of their credit file
The supermarket has launched a "Clearer Credit" pack which will enable shoppers to obtain their Experian credit file without paying the £2 fee, along with guidance on how borrowers can improve their credit worthiness. About 1.5 million consumers request a copy of their credit file each year, a sizeable chuck of which do so because they have been turned down for a loan. You can apply for a copy of your credit report online with each of the three credit reference agencies, experian.co.uk, equifax.co.uk and callcredit.plc.uk

I think it's outrageous that individuals have to pay to see their credit file. This is a clearly against the spirit of the Data Protection Act. The fact that Experian and Equifax have got dispensation to charge £2 must be wrong.
I noticed that Experian put out a release this week urging people who had stayed in the Grand Hotel in Brighton (where they dumped registration cards in a skip) to pay £2 to check their credit file. Would have been much better PR to offer this free rather than trying to make money out of people who may also now be victims of credit fraud.
